I've been writing about science for broad audiences since I was a PhD student in oceanography in the mid 1990s. I used to be a staff reporter at Newsweek, and a senior writer at US News & World Report. These days I write books and freelance articles, and spend most of my time teaching science and journalism students at Stanford University.
